The Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation (ABWF) is a locally based nonprofit dedicated to stewardship, education, and community engagement in and around the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. We work in close partnership with the Custer Gallatin National Forest and local organizations. including Sibanye-Stillwater and Beartooth Backcountry Horsemen to support on-the-ground wilderness care and to help people build the skills and ethics needed to travel responsibly in wild places.

Our core services include trail maintenance and restoration, wilderness education, volunteer stewardship projects, and community-based programs that connect people to place. We serve local families, youth, volunteers, and visitors, with a strong emphasis in Carbon and Stillwater Counties and surrounding communities. Our service area includes trail systems and access points throughout the Bearooth Mountains and adjacent landscapes.

Key programs include our long-standing partnership with the Beartooth Backcountry Horsemen for traditional trail work, the Women in Wilderness education program based at The Beartooth Ranch, Trailhead Ambassadors, and volunteer stewardship projects that maintain safe access while protecting wilderness character.
